What to wish for during the New Moon in Virgo
Your monthly guide to new moon manifestation: Virgo edition.
The new moon is a powerful time to set intentions for the month ahead.
A new moon happens when the moon is positioned between the Earth and the sun, making it invisible from Earth. This phase marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle. Traditionally, it’s a time for new beginnings, setting intentions and focusing on renewal and growth.
During the new moon phase, the moon's energetic influence is particularly powerful for manifesting desires and goals. The intentions you set during the new moon begin more than one cycle. Your new moon intentions sew seeds for the next 1-6 months.
New Moon Deets
This month’s new moon on September 2nd peaks at 9:56pm ET / 6:56pm PT at 11 degrees of Virgo.
Happening in a mutable earth sign, this new moon in Virgo is here to help you determine what needs to change to create the stability that you seek. Powered by Virgo’s natural affinity for details, this new moon offers and opportunity to get down to the nitty-gritty of your projects and ventures.
Virgo is ruled by Mercury, which stations direct just 4 days before this new moon. Thus, this lunation may bring clarity around your communications including messaging, writing, and speaking.
This Virgo new moon is the perfect time to set intentions around:
Your health—especially around your diet, nervous system and digestive system
Your work and how you want to be of service to others
Teaching and sharing knowledge
Organising your work and home life
Developing supportive routines and rhythms—not just for work, but also for your spiritual and creative life
Releasing paralysing self-criticism and perfectionism
If you have planets between 6-16 degrees of the mutable signs—Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces or Gemini—or Capricorn or Taurus, you’ll want to pay special attention to this new moon.
Rules for making wishes
There are loads of new moon rituals out there but writing new moon wishes is one of my favourite ways to work with the new moon. I started writing wishes back in 2022 after reading Jan Spiller’s book, New Moon Astrology.
According to homegirl Jan, there are a few rules that you need to follow before making your wishes:
Write your wishes within 8 hours of the new moon where possible, and no more than 72 hours after the new moon.
Write your wishes by hand, where possible.
Write a minimum of 1 wish and a maximum of 10 wishes.
Don’t make wishes for other people, but you can make wishes about your own interactions with others.
Make more than one wish around a particularly important or especially challenging area of your life.
When writing wishes, use the format “I want…”, or “I’m so grateful for…”
Trust yourself and believe in your magic.
This isn’t an exhaustive list but these are the guidelines I’ve found most important when making wishes.
Sample Wishes for the New Moon in Virgo
I want to easily find myself attracted to and consuming those foods that are nourishing for my body.
I want to easily attract, recognise and begin working at the right job for me.
I’m so grateful to have created a routine that gives me plenty of time for work, rest, play and time with my family.
I want to easily find myself focusing on what is going right in my life rather than what is going “wrong”.
I want my open head centre’s habit of overanalysing and using negative, self-critical language easily lifted from me.
I am so grateful to be filled with a sense of purpose, happiness and satisfaction from my work.
